150 YEARS OF HISTORY

The Mount Royal Cemetery Company made the commitment, more than 150 years ago, to care for the burial sites of the deceased in perpetuity. When the Trustees of the Company purchased many acres of land on Mount Royal in 1851, they stated that they had chosen "a spot capable of being made one of the most beautiful and finest cemeteries in America".

A new entity has been formed to focus on the great historical value of Mount Royal Cemetery. The Friends of the Mount Royal Cemetery has been created, not only to pay tribute to all the generations of Montrealers buried in Mount Royal Cemetery, but also to preserve its beautiful landscape, its centenary trees and all the similarities between its history and that of the cosmopolitan city it serves.

To accomplish its numerous projects, the Friends of the Mount Royal Cemetery need financial support through donations. The Friends of the Mount Royal Cemetery is a registered charity and can therefore provide tax deductible receipts.
