“In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.”
Alfred Steiglitz, American photographer and modern art promoter.

With a goal to support and promote local photographers, the “Friends of the Mount Royal Cemetery” established this juried photography exhibition in 2007. Now in its 11th consecutive year, this popular exhibition provides photographers with opportunities not only to expose their works in a very unique public venue but also to win cash prizes and have their work appear in publications of the “Friends of the Mount Royal Cemetery”.

This year we are looking for photographs of your favourite mountains including Montreal’s own Mount Royal; more than mountain landscapes, we are looking for mountain treasures captured in any of the four seasons; perhaps the elusive Red Fox, a crystalline landscape, a fleeting sculpture by a rushing stream or a brilliant sunset.

Discover the hidden treasures of this magnificent garden cemetery and display your works in the incomparable setting of the Mount Royal Funeral Complex located at 1297 Chemin de la Forêt on beautiful Mount Royal in Outremont.

The “Friends of the Mount Royal Cemetery” helps preserve and promote the tremendous natural and historic treasure that the Mount Royal Cemetery has become since its founding in 1852.

Historical Journeys at Mount Royal Cemetery – Facts and anecdotes told during the many historical guided tours of the Cemetery

Historical walking tours have taken place at Mount Royal Cemetery every summer since 1995 with most of the tours having themes that focus on one aspect at a time such as politicians, athletes, artists, etc. These tours bring to life many interesting facts and anecdotes about people who can be linked to important historic events. This new historical booklet entitled “Historical Journeys at Mount Royal Cemetery” outlines the various themes with highlights of information recounted during these tours. Even though this booklet does not give the entirety of the contents of the tours, more than 120 individuals who are buried in the Cemetery are mentioned as well as information on numerous organizations.

This booklet is available in English and French at the Cemetery office and the Mount Royal Funeral Complex at the cost of $10.00 and will be available at all the events organized by the Friends of the Mount Royal Cemetery. It can also  be mailed to you for an additional $3.00 and all payments are to be made to the Friends of the Mount Royal Cemetery.

THE CEMETERY TREES IN THE FALL
Sunday September 24th at 10 a.m.

Led by Jerry Bull, tree specialist
Starting at the Cemetery’s main entrance 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont

Autumn is the season of striking change. With warm colours, fruit, nuts and cones, not only are the leaves at their most flamboyant, but the fruit of the trees are often at their most striking and most visible. Bean pods, apples, haws, samaras, nuts, catkins and berries abound on such trees of the cemetery as the Ohio buckeye, spindle, ginkgo and several species of maple. Come and enjoy the beauty of the trees at the closing of their cycle.
